While Christmas caroling with a group of senior high girls at a nursing home one of the girls suggested that we sing "I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas." As we sang the chorus, a sweet older lady leaned over and whispered in my ear, "Now who would ever want a hippopotamus for Christmas? That is ridiculous!" I giggled and agreed with her...who wrote that silly song anyway?
I mean, did that little girl
really think through what she was asking Santa for? Did she know that a hippo weighs 2-3 tons, is semi-aquatic, consumes 150 pounds of grass per night, is one of the most ill-tempered and aggressive animals on the planet, and can outrun a human (it can run anywhere from 18-30 miles per hour)......silly girl.
